| State-of-the-art IP Network service will be launched in ICT City Phuket |

FTTx (Fiber to the x) is a modern telecommunication technology that provides broadband internet and triple play (voice, data and video) services. Optical Fiber Cable will link the service provider to each subscriber; to residential (Fiber to the home: FTTH), to business (Fiber to the office: FTTO), to building (Fiber to the building: FTTB) and to apartment (fiber to the apartment: FTTA).
TOT as the leading national telecommunication service provider which aims to fulfill customers and the public demands in both social and economic aspects. Thus, TOT introduced FTTx services to the premium customers and foreign businessmen and travelers who usually rely on broadband internet. To accommodate the government ICT policy, TOT launched a commercial pilot project in Phuket, the ICT City and Thailand?s famous tourist attraction site.
TOT is the leader in bringing FTTx to Thailand and this project will be the first commercial base deployment in Southeast Asia. TOT has signed a contract with the Consortium of Italian-Thai Development and Siam Fiber Optics. The project will be implemented with the GE-PON(Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network ) technology that has been widespread in huge numbers by NTT in Japan as a state-of-the-art IP Network service in access area and the equipment for the system integration will be supplied by Fujikura Ltd,.
TOT expect to complete this project by the end of 2008.
Phuket?s FTTx at the beginning will be able to support customers at the size around 3,200 ports. TOT also has the future plan to expand FTTx to other business areas. |
